Rain Glorious Rain
Rain, rain, don't go away (yet)

If you've driven past the farm this week, you'll know: it has RAINED. Properly, gloriously rained. The kind of rain that makes a flower farmer do a little happy dance in the doorway, then immediately start mentally rearranging the entire week.
Because here's the truth about a good soaking: everything we planned to do outside got bumped. Planting? Postponed. Spraying? Not happening. Mud and tiny seedlings are not friends. So the planting plan is being shuffled to next week, and we're calling that a win. The soil is getting the deep drink it's been begging for, and everything already in the ground is putting on growth like it's been told a secret.

It hasn't been all gumboots and waiting, though. Last week the crew got the green and red amaranthus planted out amongst the peonies. And rainy days are made for shed jobs: finishing dividing the dahlias (every clump becomes summer's armfuls) and the very glamorous potting mix and irrigation supply runs.
Meanwhile, the rain hasn't slowed what's flowering. This week's bunches are stacked: peonies, guelder rose, tall bearded iris, hellebores, foxgloves, lupins, gladioli, snapdragons, waxflower, kangaroo paw and roses, with ninebark and magnolia foliage and a little California lilac to finish.
And this weekend, find us at Kirribilli Markets on Saturday 24 October (stall C17). Come say hi and see what the rain has been busy growing.
Right. Back to the boot room. We are not mad about the rain.
